Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), through its subsidiary Hyundai Power Transformers USA, operates one of the largest transformer manufacturing facilities in North America. Located in Montgomery, Alabama, this flagship facility plays a vital role in the production of high-voltage power transformers used across the U.S. electrical grid. With a growing demand for energy infrastructure and reliable power transmission solutions, HHI continues to invest in the expansion of its American operations to meet domestic utility needs while reinforcing its position as a global leader in power equipment manufacturing.
As part of Hyundai Heavy Industries' ongoing expansion efforts, our team was engaged to provide the full structural design for a new transformer building within the Montgomery campus. This new building was conceived to support the fabrication, assembly, and testing of large-scale power transformers and required a highly specialized structural approach to accommodate the size, weight, and technical demands of heavy industrial equipment.
Our work began with the analysis of operational requirements and environmental factors to develop a robust and efficient foundation system capable of supporting concentrated loads and resisting settlement under dynamic conditions. We then delivered complete structural framing plans and details, including long-span steel systems and high bay areas, engineered for crane operations and transformer handling.
The building's structure was designed to integrate seamlessly with Hyundai’s existing production processes and future automation needs, incorporating structural reinforcements at key equipment zones and provisions for overhead lifting systems.
Through our structural design, we helped enable the next phase of HHI’s growth in the U.S., reinforcing their commitment to innovation, precision manufacturing, and energy reliability. The new transformer building stands as a critical piece of infrastructure in HHI’s long-term vision to expand its U.S. manufacturing capabilities and serve the nation’s power grid with world-class transformer solutions.
